“Thought I’d share my exhaust thoughts with you all.
I've been running with a new style Janspeed centre exit exhaust on my Mk5 coupe for a while but yesterday I swapped it out for a centre exit exhaust from a well respected Smart performance exhaust supplier.
Here are the comparisons.
Janspeed
Reasonably loud with a good bit of back firing when decelerating.
Very free flowing
Well built
Light weight

Deeper & quieter and slightly more bearable on the motorway
Doesn’t spit & fart like the Janspeed
Build quality seems to be good

Having driven the same car with both exhausts, the Janspeed really brings out the best of the engine. It really is noticeable. My problem with the Janspeed was that its just a tad too loud for me coz I leave for work early in the mornings and don’t want to wake up my kids.
On the motorway, the Janspeed hums along and 6the gear cruising is a breeze with a nice noise under hard acceleration. Pick up is very smooth as well & you only need to change down to 5th when you really want to move on.
The other is more mellow in the motorway but 6th gear cruising seems to require a bit more effort. I suspect it’s due to the differences in design.
For your info, both of these exhausts have the larger down pipe coz my car is currently running a roadster turbo. This will make them sound differently to the same exhausts fitted to a standard turbo.” |
